i have the same issue on both macs when i goto save as AI. i am only left with (2) PDF options. the first PDF option on the list is really an AI format in disguise, and the other is really the PDF. this seems like a total goof by adobe. i read somewhere, today's PDF files and AI are almost identical anyways, but that still pisses me off.
if your AI files are bearing the PDF logo and opening with arobat, just "get info" on the file and change it system-wide to open with AI.
i dunno why you're getting AI v10 icons tho. maybe, because they were originally created in v10 and haven't been modified???
