a list apart 4.0 2

a list apart site grab

Nice stuff here. My first impression as I saw the new redesign was Jason Santa Maria. He definetely carried his signature style and branding thru the redesign, It’s very clean and simple, and successfully takes that path where clean and simple succeeds rather than being dull and plain. There does seem to be a shift in the layout to go in the blog direction, as opposed to earlier versions. The decision to go 1024×768 on the layout was a good one. This move is for all intensive purposes not that bold for ala, as the bulk of their readers are designers and developers, but its great to see none the less, and I’m sure will endure all the bashings from the liquid layout police.

The markup is exceptionally clean and was pulled off with only a small handful of IE5 hacks. Thanks to Eric Meyer, they’ve got some solid CSS. With this kind of foundation, and the addition of ala’s great content, this site is set to march on into the battlefield of innovation once again.

*Hat Tip to Jennifer Guevin from c|net for the quote.

IE7 Beta Review 0

tagged_code, web | late evening

Dave Shea has written a review of the IE7 beta. No suprises here thats for sure. Long list of CSS bugs not even touched, looks like the same headaches will continue from IE6.

I figure I can do two things, moan about it and continue to shake my head at MS, or I could say and will continue to say until I’m blue in the face— Get Firefox. Even better yet if 95% of you went out and got a mac, to go with your iPod.

I have to take a *sigh* break for a bit and pay a tribute to a decent bloke. Dunstan has decided to move on, and has announced other good news about his girlfriend landing a new position as well. All in all some great news from the 76 camp. His site has always been a great place to visit, his attitude and transparency, consistently made for time well spent. Also not to mention his beyond extraordinary coding skills, and speaking of those, he has graciously offered up his 1976 files, which I will be spending a good amount of time looking at!

Congratz Dunstan and thanks.
